Awake, we are called by the Voice

So much to treasure in this Cantata!

1. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, we are called by the Voice)— The introduction is a chorale full of pride and energy, and a tenderness at times too.
2. Er kommt (He comes)
3. Wann kommst du, mein Heil? (Where will you come, my Savior?)
4. Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the Watchmen sing) — an absolute gem. How do the violins and the chorale fit together? The melodies nestle right into each other.
5. So geh herein zu mir (So come inside to me)
6. Mein Freund ist mein! (My Friend is mine) — A joyous duet between the Soprano and Bass. Actually a trio with the oboe. If I HAD to choose, I would say I love this movement the most from this Cantata — but only if I had to.
7. Gloria sei dir gesungen (May Gloria be sung to you)

Need I mention how legendary the Netherlands Bach Society is?
